The Commission is hiring a Part-time Scale Operator for the Tama County Landfill. Working hours are 7:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on Saturday’s as needed. Wage is $19.32/hour with no benefits. Applications can be picked up at the Tama County Landfill, 2872 K Ave., Toledo, Iowa or the Tama County Highway Department, 1002 E. 5th St. Tama, Iowa. Applications will be accepted until Friday, July 24, 2026. Tama County Landfill is an EOE.

Part-time Scale Operator Job Description

​

Under the general supervision of the Landfill Administrator, is responsible for duties related to operating the scale.

​

Essential Functions:

​​

• Must be able to speak, read, write, and understand English

• Must be able to handle money and make change

• Must have calculator, phone skills

​

Duties:

​

• Operates scale, makes change, answers phone.

• Assesses incoming loads for hazardous wastes and proper securing and covering.

• Over sees household hazardous materials building, scrap metal pile, electronics building & tire trailer.

• Keeps scale house and site clean

• Maintains an effective working relationship with the general public and with other employees.

• Performs other duties as assigned by the Landfill Administrator.

Education, Experience, and Special Requirements:

​

• Must possess a valid Driver’s License.

• Must have computer knowledge.
